Description
A neolithic polished stone axehead found as part of an in situ hoard of three axes in the garden of 19 Oakfield Road, Bishop's Cleeve, Gloucestershire (the others being 1994.618 & 1994.619). A broad, rounded cutting edge and straight sides that taper in to a pointed butt end. At this end there are flake scars still clearly visible. The cross-section of the axehead is symmetrical and domed. Made from a fine grained, grey-green rock, identified as an andesitic tuff, possibly from a source in Wales.
