Description
A neolithic polished stone axehead found as part of an in situ hoard of three axes in the garden of 19 Oakfield Road, Bishop's Cleeve, Gloucestershire (the others being 1994.617 & 1994.618). A broad, rounded cutting edge which is asymmetrical and heavily weathered; and straight sides that taper in to a rounded butt end. The cross-section of the axehead is symmetrical. Made from a coarse grained, mottled rock, of grey-green colour, identified as a greenstone from Cornwall, petrology Group I.
