Description
Cheltenhamorama peep-show depicting the Well Walk, Cheltenham, with a view towards the Spa Well and St Mary's in the distance, by Henry Lamb, about 1825. The Cheltenhamorama works by placing a sequence of flat cut out drawings in an illuminated box. The drawings are aligned to give the illusion of a three dimensional space with correct perspective when viewed through a peep-hole. These peep-shows were a very popular novelty in the 19th century.
