Description
Coin, a silver sixpence of Elizabeth I. This coin is from hoard of 251 coins found in Winchcombe, Gloucestershire on 23 October 1997 by Mr T. Smith, Mr F. Christopher and Mr J. Biddle, along with sherds from a small pottery jug.
The obverse shows traces of a crowned bust of Elizabeth facing left with a rosette stamp in field to the right. The reverse shows a quartered shield within a ring, with the date above. Three lions sit in the top right and bottom left quarters while three fleur de lis sit in the top left and bottom right quarters. It features a greek cross initial mark in both inscriptions and was minted in London, 1578
