Book entitled 'A Death Song' by William Morris. With memorial illustration design by Walter Crane. To commemorate the death of Alfred Linnell, an impoverished law writer who was killed by charging police horses in Trafalgar Square, November 20 1887. William Morris wrote 'the Death Song' for the Law and Liberty's League Anti State Funeral for Alfred Linnell. With music by Malcolm Lawson, the song focuses on the treachery of the authorities and the eventual triumph of the working classes. The book was sold for one penny in aid of Alfred Linnell's orphans. Published by Richard Lambert, 1887. From the library belonging to Emery Walker.
