Private press book entitled 'Areopagitica; A Speech Of Mr.John Milton For The Liberty Of Unlicensed Printing, To The Parliament Of England' by John Milton. Published by the Doves Press, 1907. Reprint of the 1644 edition. Milton's 'Areopagitica' is considered one of the most influential, impassioned and eloquent philosophical defenses of the right to freedom and expression for the press. It was written in opposition to the licensing order of 1643 and is titled after a speech made by Isocrates 5th B.C. This copy was given by Emery Walker to his daughter Dorothy Walker December 1907. From the library belonging to Emery Walker.
