Description
Square tiles of pressed earthenware with slip and painted decoration designed by William De Morgan. He first started producing designs for tiles around 1870. These tiles have a Persian design, known as Mongolian, which decorates a pair of tiles, placed one above the other, creating a sense of movement upwards through a decorative curving band. These tiles were used at Fauconberg House, Cheltenham, which was bought by the Cheltenham Ladies College in 1870.
