Description
Persian Shamshir, 18th - 19th century, OAL 877mm. Blade: steel, L. 749mm, narrow, curved, plain, single edged. Varnished. Hilt: steel, cross guards end in flattened round terminal knobs engraved with a flower, cross guard block engraved with Arabic script, fore and aft langets on left side are broken off. Pommel is in the "Karabela style, the steel cap engraved with Arabic script. Grips are ivory or bone, originally two pieces, but the right side is missing. Scabbard: wood core covered with black, grained leather. Two steel ferrules engraved with Arabic script and ornamented rigid hanger mounts.
