Description
Persian sword, 18th - 19th century, OAL 985mm. Blade:steel, L. 821mm, straight, double edged, both sides richly engraved from hilt almost to point with continuous Arabic script and panels: from hilt; moustached warrior with foliage, two serpents, a bird amidst foliage, turbaned man with foliage, bird amidst foliage, and fianally a single serpent to the point. Warrior on the opposite is without moustache. Hilt: steel, all in one piece. Once engraved or etched and possibly silver gilded. much worn and varnished in the past. Cross guards forward curving and ending in floral terminals, langets. Pommel is a wide, flattened cross. Scabbard: wood core covered with now faded and worn green herring bone patterned cloth. There are two etched/engraved with applied silver or niello steel ferrules with rigid eye hanger mounts.
