My dear Sir,
Many thanks for your kind words about Stowe[i], which shall be passed on to Mr. [Doll[ii]] when he gets back from Harrogate. From what I have been told we owe you our best thanks for the map; I can see it is a great work.
I remain
Yours very [unreadable]
[L. Lennan[ii]]
Emery Walker Esq
[Footnote:
[i]Though the spelling is slightly different, this is probably a reference to the author John Stow, inside whose book this letter was stored. It was reprinted in two volumes by The Clarendon Press in 1908.
[ii]The writing on the original is unclear and a basic Internet search about this book and the Clarendon Press has not shed any light on the identity of these 2 people. CAW]
