Beschreibung
Sword and scabbard from northern Nigeria, probably of Hausa manufacture. The sword with steel pommel of flattened, arched form on a short hand-grip and sloping shoulders bound with plaited leather. Steel blade, which tapers to a rounded tip has longitudinal grooves. The scabbard is of leather and bound in cotton fabric, most of which is plain, but some with blue and purple decoration. End of scabbard of 'fish-tail' form. Collected by Lieut Col Robert L. Beasley DSO between 1901 and 1906.
