Description
English walnut table top with a reeded edge of macassar ebony and legs and stretchers of ebony designed by Ernest Gimson and made by Harry Davoll and Peter Waals. The top is decorated with two inlaid lines of chequered ebony and holly and two rows of double dovetails. It took 688 hours to make and cost £61.18.0. There are several surviving drawings and letters about this piece and the sideboard which was made to match. The client was Allan Tangye, who also commissioned fire-irons and other pieces from Gimson.
