Description
Brown leather panels with embossed and tooled designs by C R Ashbee and made by the Guild of Handicraft. The frieze originally consisted of 20 panels made for the sitting room of Bryngywn, the Herefordshire house of James Rankin MP. The pink and the 'Craft of the Guild', a galleon under sail, were favourite emblems of the Guild of Handicraft. The pink represented the Guild and was derived from a surprise blooming of pinks outside Essex House, London in the Guild's first year there. The 'Craft of the Guild' represents the uncertainities of life's journey.
