Description
Jar and cover in earthenware with a matt glaze painted in silver lustre designed and painted by Alfred Powell. Powell developed this shape for Wedgwood around 1913, as a series of designs relating to ginger jars. It anticipates the modernist shapes designed by Keith Murray for Wedgwood in the 1930s. The glaze treatment relates to the Veronese range produced by Wedgwood with the Powells in the 1930s. It featured soft and subtle coloured galzes and simple lustre decoration to create a more modern handpainted range.
