Descripción
Axhead, a neolithic polished stone axehead, from Great Witcombe Romano-British Villa, Gloucestershire. The surface is uneven and pitted towards the edges where the original flaking has been too irregular for polishing to remove its traces. A broad, slightly rounded cutting edge; the sides taper in to the narrow, pointed butt end, which is slightly damaged. Made from a fine-grained, dark grey rock with paler patches, probably from a source in south west Wales.
