From Mr. Clarke Conwell, The ELSTON Press[i] Ninety-eight Pelham Road, New Rochelle, New York Emery Walker, Esq My dear Sir, On reprinting a number of essays by William Morris under the title “The Art and Craft of Printing” I have used the one from the Arts & Crafts Essays which bears your name in conjunction with that of Mr Morris. I am aware that in doing this I hav without consulting you I have apparently followed a practice all too common in America, but the article was in type before I noticed the joint signature and being too important to omit there was nothing to do but go on with it. I wish however to apologise for the apparent lack of courtesy (and I assure you that it was only apparent) and [hope] that you will accept the two copies of the book which I have sent you by post. My next book, a reprint of the final edition of Milton’s “Comus” will be more interesting from a typo-graphical standpoint – I have taken the liberty of reserving a copy of it which I will be forwarded to you when issued, and which I shall ask you to accept with my kind regards.
