Descripción
Walnut cabinet and desk designed by Peter Waals and made by Sir George Trevelyan. Trevelyan spent two years from 1929 to 1931 in Waal’s Chalford workshop working at the bench as a paying pupil. It was a formative and satisfying experience. This cabinet was the largest and most ambitious piece he made at Chalford. Waals marked one of the inner drawers ‘Designer Peter Waals Craftsman George Trevelyan’. It was included in the 1931 Arts and Crafts Exhibition at Burlington House, London. Throughout his life as a craftsman, designer and educationalist, Trevelyan was inspired by the Arts and Crafts Movement’s ultimate goal - to promote creative manual work in order to improve the quality of people’s lives.
