Arabian Jambiya, 18th-19th century, OAL 302mm. Blade: steel, L. 206mm, angled curve, double edged with prominent central ridge. Rust damage, greased. Hilt: Traditional shape of horn with a silver ferrule at the base with a small ring at the top. The grip is wasted with silver panals on both sides that are embossed with a foliate design and pinned to the horn. The end points of the pommel are capped with silver cups, the top one with a small ring. The butt of the pommel is covered by an engraved, oval, silver plate. Scabbard: wood core covered with brown leather engraved with a lattice pattern. A silver ferrule at the throat is engraved with an architectural design. An embossed silver strip runs the length of each edge. On both sides a silver panal at the top is embossed with a floral design and attached to a wide silver strip with beaded edges which extends to a silver chape embossed with an architectural design and a scalloped point. Rust, wear and damage.
