Description
Most of a neolithic polished stone axehead found at Andoversford, Gloucestershire. The cutting edge is broad and rounded, the sides taper in slightly to the butt end which is broken away. Made from a very dark, grey stone, which has been identified as porcellanite, provenanced to Tievebulliagh, Northern Ireland, petrological Group IX. From the collection of George Backhouse Witts.
