Description
English oak settee with softwood seat frame designed by Sidney Barnsley, with upholstered cushion in ungalled linen fabric designed by Phyllis Barron. The settee belonged to William and Eve Simmonds, who were friends with both Barnsley and Barron. Both Barnsley and Ernest Gimson designed numerous variations on this theme of a settee with a chamfered lattice back based on the sides of the farm wagons that were still used in Gloucestershire in the late late 19th and early 20th centuries.
