Description
Sword and scabbard, or takouba, from Bornu region in northern Nigeria, probably of Hausa manufacture. The sword has a large oval pommel, short hand grip and leather covered guards decorated with eight-pointed stars. The steel blade tapers to a small rounded point. The leather-covered scabbard has a recessed central panel with stamped decoration and a metal openwork panel covering a piece of red cloth. Collected by Lieut Col Robert L. Beasley DSO between 1901 and 1906.
