Description
Sword and scabbard, of takouba type, from Bornu region in northern Nigeria, probably of Hausa manufacture. The sword has a large oval pommel, slender hand grip and leather covered guards decorated with zigzags. The steel blade tapers to a small rounded point. The leather-covered scabbard has a recessed central panel with stamped decoration and a metal panel at the upper end. The sheath has two leather attachment straps, one with a loop of green cloth. Collected by Lieut Col Robert L. Beasley DSO between 1901 and 1906.
