Description
A short sword and scabbard probably made in the Congo region. Polished wooden handle with domed pommel and a hand grip divided in two by an incised circumferential line; wide sloping shoulders. Wide symmetrical polished steel blade with mid-rib. Blade curves out in an exaggerated manner before coming to a sharp point. Wooden scabbard with hide covering and iron buckle loop attached near upper end. Catalogued as collected by Lieut Col Robert L. Beasley DSO between 1901 and 1906 from northern Nigeria, but likely place of manufacture of piece is quite remote from this region.
