Description
Indian Khanda, 18th - 19th century, OAL 927mm. Blade: steel, L. 733mm, straight with usual angled point. Single edged from ricasso to within 200mm of point then double edged (yalman). Long ricasso (155mm), and back to yalman enveloped by ornamentally perforated steel sections welded of riveted to the blade, which in turn is riveted to heavy steel plaques which are part of the hilt. Hilt: steel, Indian Basket style with heavy figure "8" guard and curved knuckle guard to large saucer pommel, dome and slightly curved spike with button. All with applied silver foliate and floral pattern. Guard is lined with red felt edged with canvas. grip is steel wrapped with twisted wire. No scabbard.
