Flat copper alloy axehead dated to the Bronze Age. Narrow butt end, straight sides that flare out to a fanned cutting edge. Both faces of the axe with punched, 'rain' decoration. Found in Kilcot Wood, Newent, Gloucestershire, about 1854. Identified from original sketch in portfolio of drawings at British Museum, made at the time the object was exhibited at the Society of Antiquaries in London. At the time the object was owned by Mr John Irving. The sketch has the following annotation: 'spearhead and celt found about 1854 in the Kilcot Wood, Newent, Glos. John Irving Esq.'
