William George Simmonds (designer/maker)

Autumn calf in English oak, painted and on an ash stand, carved by William Simmonds. Simmonds put a lot of thought into the woods he used for his carvings, usually using local woods like oak, elm, chestnut and hawthorn, but he also painted them in oil paint to give a very rich, even surface. His stands were usually made by Fred Gardiner.
