Private press book entitled 'The Ideal Book, Or The Book Beautiful, A Tract On Calligraphy Printing And Illustration & On The Book Beautiful As A Whole' by T.J.Cobden-Sanderson. Published by the Doves Press, 1900. Containing Cobden-Sanderson's essay on his aims and principals for book production. He was opposed to the over decorative initials found in Medieval illuminated manuscripts and revived by the Kelmscott Press. He stressed that an illustration should be self contained and not detract from the clearness and beauty of the text. This copy was given by Emery Walker to his daughter Dorothy Walker February 22nd 1901. From the library belonging to Emery Walker.
