Man's fur coat with attached fur mittens. Coat is a slightly flared shape, with a collar, a V-shaped neck and no front opening; leather toggle fastening at collar and neck; four leather loops attached round lower part of coat. Part of fur suit. Used in the Antarctic by Dr Edward Adrian Wilson, the Discovery Expedition (1901-1904). The man's vest (or undergarment) is of crocheted wool with buttoned linen straps and linen top edge (display figure 1926.53 was wearing this under the fur coat).
