An election card for Mr Alton William Hillen, for the general election of 1895. The front bears, in red ink, a notice for the election beneath the town crest and royal crown set in a floral arbor. In addition there is a cartoon of three men, presumably political rivals. On the reverse Mr Hillen sets out eight reasons for supporting his candidature. Mr Hillen was a local solicitor and stood as an independent Conservative candidate. He came third in this election, with just 23 votes.
