Spherical teapot, with cylindrical mouth, on low foot-ring. Late famille rose porcelain. Painted in polychrome enamels (black, sepia, crimson, leaf and lime greens, greyish blue, and purple) and gilding, on greyish glaze, with two main panels of upper class Chinese family on terrace by lake, minor bracketed panels of landscapes and flowers. Tree-branch spout gilded. Tortoiseshell diaper below neck and on flange of domed lid, moulded with peach spray. Replacement handle, plaited cane on bronze. Part of a collection of porcelain, furniture, jewellery and other items given by Mrs Courroux of Stratford on Avon, 1918. The Curator and the Chairman of the Art Gallery and Museum Committee visited her at home early in the year to select the pieces.
