Mahogany writing cabinet designed by C R Ashbee and made by the Guild of Handicraft. The Guild of Handicraft showed this cabinet at the Vienna Secession Exhibition of 1900, where it was given pride of place in the centre of the room. The use of so many decorative techniques suggests that it was made as an exhibition piece, to show off the varied skills of the Guild.
