English oak dining table, top made with three planks joined together with double dovetail joints, designed and made by Sidney Barnsley. Made for Mrs M Edge with the sideboard and a glazed cupboard en suite, to furnish the dining room at a house in Charlton Kings. The family came to Cheltenham when R C Edge retired from a post in India, and needed a fair amount of furniture to set up home. Mrs Edge saw Barnsley's work and went to visit him in Sapperton and ordered several pieces from him and from Waals.
