Silver plate candleholder, cast in two pieces, separate bowl on a stand designed by W A S Benson. Benson met William Morris in 1878, and went on to design metalwork and furniture for Morris & Co. He set up his own company, and by the 1890s had a showroom in the prestigious location of New Bond Street, London. He is best known for his innovative light fittings. Benson realised that the new electrics lamps required a radical approach to design. His light fitings were used regularly in Morris & Co. room settings.
