Hammered and cast silver cup on a decorative stand and two handles designed by C R Ashbee and made by the Guild of Handicraft. Ashbee had strong views on the design of sporting cups. He believed that this was a good field for the application of new design. It is possible that this is a cup made in the early 1890s and hallmarked later, since an identical piece was illustrated in the British Architect as shown at the Arts and Crafts Exhibtion in 1893.
