Sword and scabbard, of takouba type, from Bornu region in northern Nigeria. The sword has a large ovoid pommel and a hand grip covered in copper alloy. Narrow guards decorated with copper alloy. The steel blade tapers to a small rounded point. The leather-covered scabbard has a recessed central panel with stamped decoration and a metal panel at the upper end with green cloth decoration. The scabbard has leather attachment straps. Collected by Lieut Col Robert L. Beasley DSO between 1901 and 1906.
