Arm dagger and sheath from northern Nigeria, probably of Hausa manufacture. The dagger with fan-shaped wooden pommel with short hand-grip and sloping shoulders. Wooden sheath covered with elaborate decorated leatherwork and ending in a solid oval-sectioned terminal. At the upper end of the sheath is a loop of leather which attached the sheath to the arm. The zones of decoration on the sheath consist of reptile skin, dark tooled leatherwork and strips of red and dark brown leather. Collected by Lieut Col Robert L. Beasley DSO between 1901 and 1906.
