Large leather saddle bag from northern Nigeria. Probably of Hausa manufacture. Front panel opens to reveal a pale red pouch with cotton stitched decoration and three panels with green and yellow triangular decoration. The front panel has scored, linear decoration and a fastener which passes through a loop attached to a triangular flap on the pouch. At the upper end is a carrying handle. The label suggests it carried the Koran. Collected by Lieut Col Robert L. Beasley DSO between 1901 and 1906.
