Persian Shamshir, 18th - 19th century, OAL 759mm. Blade: steel, L. 628mm, fine, narrow, curved, single edged. On right side, 85mm below hilt, is inscription in Arabic script within stylised leaf motif, possibly makers name. Hilt: silver, cross guard bordered with geometric pattern and ending in hexagonal terminal knobs. Each side of crossguard block has engraved flower. Grip is horn in two pieces in Shamshir/Mid-East style. Scabbard: wood covered in remnants of blue velvet secured on back with silver braid. Two silver ferrules with silver, untypical, swivel rings. Large silver ferrule at throad and silver chape. All decorated with geometric borders and floral patterns.
