A six-legged wooden head rest of Zulu manufacture. A rectangular platform supported by six broad rectangular legs (one broken). The external surface of the legs decorated with amasumpa motif - a raised grid-like structure. At one end of the platform the width has been reduced, to accentuate the zoomorphic form of the head rest. One of a group of objects seized from the Kraal of Cetshwayo (Cetewayo) in August 1879, by Major Arthur Gibbings of King's Dragoon Guards.
