Welcome to The Wilson’s collections 

The Wilson’s Collections are richly diverse from Old Masters to world cultures to a social history collection which tells the story of Cheltenham and the surrounding Cotswolds area from the neolithic period. A dedicated gallery houses the Arts and Crafts Movement Collection, a Designated Collection of national importance. The Art Collection includes painting and sculpture spanning four centuries, costume and textiles, decorative and applied art. 

The Wilson holds the extensive collections of Cheltenham Borough. Highlights include: 

  • Our world renowned Arts and Crafts Movement collection 
  • The Wilson Family Collection, including objects relating to Cheltenham-born, Antarctic researcher, Dr Edward Adrian Wilson. 
  • Fine art, covering the founding gift of Dutch and Belgian paintings from the Baron De Ferrieres to contemporary art 
  • Cheltenham’s heritage collection from archaeology to social history  
  • A world cultures collections which helps us understand Cheltenham’s relationship with the world over many centuries 
  • A costume collection dating from the 17th century to the late 20th century, the collection’s strength is in the 19th century, particularly women’s dress 
  • A natural science collection with highlights in earth science, biology and astronomy 
  • Our online database enables you to access information on the collections held by The Wilson. 
  • The online database is a project that we are constantly adding to and updating. You can search over 5000 objects in our collection. Please click on the search tab.
